Taco Bus won Platinum for Best Mexican Restaurant in CommunityVotes Lakeland 2026 — first place in the category, decided entirely by people who took the time to vote.
Platinum is the top one
This trips people up, so: CommunityVotes ranks Platinum first, then Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Top Picks. Platinum is the top of the category.
Ten Mexican restaurants were recognized in Lakeland this year. Taco Bus is at the top of that list — ahead of Tapatio’s, Abuelo’s, Azteca D’Oro, Plaza Mexico and everyone else in the category. Good company to be at the front of.
Nobody handed this out
There’s no panel here. No judges, no critics, no anonymous reviewer with a notebook. The nominations came from the community and the voting came from the community — from July 29th through August 30th, one ballot at a time.
Back in April we asked Lakeland to nominate us, and said at the time that it was a hundred percent community-driven and we needed people to write us in. They did. Then they voted. That’s the whole mechanism, and it’s why this one means something.
Thank you, Polk County
We don’t have a Lakeland address. What we have is Plant City, sitting right on the county line, and Polk City twenty minutes up the road — and enough people in between who decided we were worth voting for.
Plant City runs 24 hours, which we suspect explains a few of those votes.
The same answer since 1995
Taco Bus has been Tampa Bay’s street-food original since 1995 — hand-made, made to order, across eight locations now. Nothing about that changed because of an award. The award just means more people said it out loud this year.
If you voted, thank you. If you didn’t and you’re curious what the fuss is about, the menu is right here — and the fall favorites are back through November 30.
